Ireland's oldest port lodges bid to become offshore wind hub

Ireland's oldest port has lodged a bid to become a leading offshore wind hub, aiming to play a central role in shaping the future of the country’s renewable energy sector.

Bosses of the Port of Waterford, in County Kilkenny on Ireland's southernmost coast, want to turn the Belview terminal into a renewables-capable base where large-scale wind projects can get off the ground.

Included in the proposed development is a 250-metre extension to the existing wharves at Belview, as well as "extensive" land reclamation, new quayside operator support facilities with workshops and warehouses, berthing pontoons and two separate three-storey office and staff buildings.
