GridBeyond has won Best Energy Achievement in Innovation and Demonstration at the Business Energy Achievement Awards 2026, honoured for a project that tackles data centre energy use through AI driven energy management and battery storage. The award was presented at the Gala Ceremony on 16 September 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry.

The judges’ citation for the award reads: “GridBeyond impressed our judges with a technically complex project tackling data centre energy use through AI driven energy management and battery storage. The fully financed revenue share model removes significant capital and performance barriers, while the system reduces grid demand and supports greater stability during peak periods. Its scalability and proof of concept potential make this a strong example of innovation supporting a more flexible and sustainable energy system.”

The recognition reflects a challenge that is growing in scale across the Irish energy system. Data centres are among the most significant sources of electricity demand, and the question of how to manage that demand without placing additional strain on the grid is now a strategic priority for operators, network planners and policymakers alike.

GridBeyond’s approach combines two technologies that are increasingly central to that challenge. AI driven energy management allows consumption to be shaped intelligently, while battery storage gives operators the flexibility to reduce grid demand and support stability during peak periods. Together they point towards a model where large energy users contribute to grid resilience rather than simply drawing from it.

Equally significant is the commercial structure behind the project. The fully financed revenue share model removes the capital and performance barriers that often prevent organisations from adopting advanced energy technology, allowing the benefits of innovation to reach operators that might otherwise struggle to justify the upfront investment.

For the sector, the implications are clear. The judges highlighted the scalability and proof of concept potential of the project, and that combination matters for a category built around demonstration. A solution that can be financed without upfront capital and replicated across sites offers a practical route to a more flexible and sustainable energy system, rather than a single showcase project.

As the 2027 awards cycle approaches, GridBeyond’s win sets a clear marker for the kind of technically ambitious, commercially viable energy innovation the programme exists to surface.
