Turner & Townsend has been appointed by EirGrid, Ireland’s state-owned electricity transmission operator, as a key delivery partner for a multi-billion euro programme aimed at transforming the national grid. The initiative focuses on enhancing energy security, accelerating renewable energy integration, including wind and solar, and modernising Ireland’s electricity transmission infrastructure.

The global professional services firm will combine its strategic programme management expertise with the technical capabilities of WSP to deliver an end-to-end project framework. The partnership will run for five years, with a three-year optional extension, providing integrated planning, advanced digital tools, and business systems to drive efficiencies and ensure high-quality outcomes across the programme.

The appointment builds on Turner & Townsend’s long-standing relationship with EirGrid, which includes onshore and offshore grid development, system reinforcement, and international interconnections. Under the new framework, the collaboration will supplement EirGrid’s internal capabilities with global best practices, accelerating delivery while maintaining rigorous standards for safety, quality, and sustainability.

Philip Matthews, Managing Director at Turner & Townsend Ireland, described the programme as “one of Europe’s most ambitious grid transformation programmes to date.” He added that the integrated, multi-disciplinary approach will create a lower-carbon transmission network, supporting both national and international energy strategies while future-proofing Ireland’s grid.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment to building critical infrastructure that powers communities, drives economic growth, and enables a sustainable energy future. By combining expertise in programme management, technical engineering, and digital solutions, Turner & Townsend and WSP are positioned to help EirGrid deliver Ireland’s next-generation electricity network.
