Dr Reihaneh Aghamolaei has joined the judging panel for the Business Energy Achievement Awards 2026. An Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Dublin City University, her research sits at the intersection of energy engineering, digitalisation, sustainability assessment, and techno-economic optimisation, with a focus on data-driven solutions for low-carbon and resource-efficient energy systems.
Dr Aghamolaei's academic output reflects the breadth of that agenda. She has published more than 40 peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters, serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Advances in Building Energy Research, and has secured over €1 million in competitive research funding as Principal Investigator.
Her current research programme spans energy recovery, renewable integration, sustainable aviation fuels, industrial circular economy, and digital energy systems, with projects developed alongside partners including the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, the Economic and Social Research Institute, University College Dublin, Maynooth University, the University of Galway, and several industrial stakeholders.
Her expertise extends across energy systems modelling and optimisation, building performance simulation, Building Information Modelling, life-cycle assessment, digital twins, and smart energy systems. This range of technical competencies positions her to assess entries across the full spectrum of the awards' categories with both analytical precision and strategic perspective.
Before joining DCU in 2021, Dr Aghamolaei held lecturing roles at University College Dublin and Griffith College Dublin, specialising in building energy performance analysis, building physics, and energy optimisation. She also worked as a sustainability engineer in Ireland's architecture, engineering, and construction sector, contributing to sustainable building design and the assessment of energy performance and carbon emissions across residential and commercial developments. That practitioner background gives her an applied, impact-oriented lens that complements her research profile.
That combination of applied industry experience and academic depth gives Dr Aghamolaei a grounded perspective on the real-world decarbonisation challenges facing the organisations competing at the awards. Her appointment to the panel reflects the calibre of expertise the Business Energy Achievement Awards brings to the evaluation of Ireland's most ambitious energy performers.
