Over Easy Solar, a Norwegian vertical photovoltaic specialist, has deployed its first Irish installation, a 5.37kW system in Dublin combining 21 of its preassembled vertical bifacial VPV units with a green roof, offering commercial building owners a way to combine rooftop solar generation with biodiversity requirements rather than treating the two as competing uses of the same space. The installation was delivered through Over Easy Solar's partnership with Dutch green roof specialist Sempergreen and carried out by Irish contractor Solar Precision, marking the first deployment of this vertical PV and green roof combination in the country.

Over Easy Solar is a Norwegian vertical photovoltaic manufacturer founded in 2021, with more than 50 installations across 14 countries and a world record for the largest vertical rooftop solar installation, at Oslo's Ullevaal Stadion.

Solar Precision is a Kilkenny-based solar PV engineering contractor serving residential, commercial and agricultural clients across Ireland.

Sempergreen is a Dutch green roof and urban nature specialist, partnering with Over Easy Solar to integrate vertical solar units with living roof systems.

Keelin Currivan, international customer solutions advisor at Over Easy Solar, said: "The panels manage rainwater and provide thermal regulation for the roof, while the vegetation boosts panel output via the albedo effect without shading the plants themselves."

Over Easy Solar's Irish debut follows earlier expansions into the US and Canada this year, positioning vertical PV as a genuinely international product category rather than a Nordic niche. One industry study projects vertical solar panels will achieve a 40% higher capture rate than conventional systems by 2030, reflecting their ability to generate power during morning and evening peaks rather than concentrating output around midday.

That performance profile has already been tested against conventional installations: a year-long UK study found Over Easy Solar's vertical bifacial system outperformed a tilted monofacial rooftop array across all seasons, giving commercial building owners independent evidence beyond manufacturer claims.

For the sector, a single small Dublin installation matters less for its size than for establishing a case study Irish commercial developers can point to as planning authorities increasingly require green roofs alongside renewable energy commitments on the same buildings.
