Global energy technology company Hitachi Energy has announced a €4 million ($4.7 million) investment in a new Service Centre at Dublin North Park, scheduled to open in Autumn 2026, to strengthen grid resilience and expand its operational capacity in Ireland, as reported by Hitachi Energy.
The press release states that the centre will provide lifecycle services for critical grid infrastructure including transformers, switchgear, breakers and digital systems, and will include a dedicated customer training facility and a customer operations centre to support utilities, industries and data centres.
The investment is underpinned by the scale and pace of change in Ireland's electricity system, where surging demand driven by digitalisation and data centre expansion is placing increasing pressure on ageing grid infrastructure. A significant share of Ireland's electricity now comes from intermittent renewable sources, making lifecycle servicing of grid assets an operational priority for network operators.
Laura Fleming, country managing director UK & Ireland at Hitachi Energy, said: "The new Service Centre will play a vital role in creating an energy future that is resilient, sustainable, and integrated. This is crucial for long-term energy security and will significantly enhance operational excellence in Ireland."
Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke welcomed the announcement, stating that the investment speaks to Ireland's reputation as a centre for innovation and skilled talent, and that the new facility will help bolster the reliability and resilience of the grid for utilities, industries and data centres nationwide.
Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, said the investment is a strong vote of confidence in Ireland's transition to a more resilient and sustainable energy future, adding that the Service Centre will play a vital role in strengthening Ireland's electricity grid to meet growing demand and increasing renewables integration.
The Dublin centre forms part of Hitachi Energy's broader $1 billion global investment programme to expand service capacity and develop more than 5,000 additional service experts worldwide. The company marks 80 years of operations in Ireland with this announcement, with the new facility expected to create additional jobs and expand its in-country capabilities.
Hitachi Energy is headquartered in Switzerland and employs over 50,000 people across 60 countries, generating revenues of approximately $16 billion annually.
