Greenvolt Next has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract to deliver three solar farms in Cork for renewable energy developer Amarenco. For the business energy sector, the project adds 32MW of new solar generation capacity and supports Ireland's growing pipeline of utility-scale renewable assets.
The Irish Examiner reported that the Waterford-based company will construct the developments in Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague, with all three sites targeted for completion by the middle of 2027.
Part of the Portuguese Greenvolt Group, Greenvolt Next will be responsible for implementing and delivering the projects under the EPC agreement. Irish-founded Amarenco, which employs more than 200 people, develops and invests in long-term energy infrastructure.
Once operational, the three solar farms are expected to generate enough electricity to supply around 38,000 homes annually. The companies also announced plans to enhance biodiversity at each location through ecological measures and a soil health monitoring programme integrated across the sites.
Owen Power, chief executive officer of Greenvolt Next Ireland and UK, said: "Through the integration of state-of-the-art technology, Amarenco will benefit from considerable volumes of solar energy, helping it to lead the way in the green energy space."
He added: "The development of solar farms of this scale offers significant energy security, helping to reduce the impact of energy price volatility while offering stability in terms of business performance."
Declan Cullinane, managing director of Amarenco, described the development as "a significant milestone" for the company and said the projects would generate enough solar power to meet the electricity needs of homes in Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague combined.
Cullinane said: "A project of this scale meant we needed a partner with the vision, resources and expertise to complement our capabilities. Together with Greenvolt Next, we will deliver a project that sets a new benchmark for large-scale renewable energy development in Ireland."
The Cork developments are expected to strengthen Amarenco's renewable energy portfolio while expanding Greenvolt Next's role in delivering utility-scale solar infrastructure projects in Ireland.
