Dutch geo-data specialist Fugro has landed a seven-year deal with Ireland’s EirGrid to chart the seabed off the south coast for future offshore wind connections. The project, part of Ireland’s Powering Up Offshore – South Coast initiative, will inform the development of substations and export cable routes to link offshore wind farms to the national grid.

Fugro will deploy a full suite of geophysical, environmental, and geotechnical surveys across onshore, intertidal, nearshore, and offshore zones. Advanced data will be delivered via its cloud-based VirGeo platform, enabling smarter, faster engineering decisions that minimise risk and environmental impact.

With operations kicking off this month, the initiative supports Ireland’s target of 80% renewable energy by 2030, including 5 GW from offshore wind. Irish suppliers have also been tapped for key roles, reinforcing local industry participation in the energy transition.
